Understanding the Urge for Bold Hues

Are you feeling the urge to infuse your living space with vibrant, daring colors, lets look at the options with Neptune paints. ? You’re not alone. Cultural historian and color expert Kassia St Clair suggests “Colour trends tend to be cyclical: periods of colour restraint are often followed by bold experimentation.” Our penchant for bold hues often follows periods of restraint in fashion and interior design trends. “Other things come into play too,” she adds. “We respond to shifts in politics and culture. So, for example, people coming out of times of enforced restraint or fear – precipitated by a global pandemic, economic downturns, wars, environmental disasters,  – generally respond by being braver with fashion and interior choices.”

Additionally, shifts in politics and culture can influence our color choices, reflecting a desire to break free from constraints.

The Emotional Connection to Color

Beyond trends and societal influences, our emotional connection to colour plays a significant role. As Lucinda Chambers, founder of Collagerie and former Vogue fashion director, explains “We don’t just see colours with the eye and mind, but with the heart,” “Colours bring joy into the world and make the everyday experiences richer and more inspirational.”

When in doubt about using – and combining – colour, we recommend applying the 60-30-10 decorating ratio. Allocate 60% of the space to your main color, 30% to your secondary color, and 10% to your accent color for a balanced look.

4. Test Your Chosen Colour

Introduce a large sample of your chosen colour into your space paint a few A3 paper samples and observe how they look in different lighting conditions. Adjust the intensity as needed to enhance the room’s atmosphere, consider dialling up or down on the intensity of the shade.
